Olive Oil to remove earwax?

I've never used olive oil but I would assume it is similar to mineral oil as far as being effective since they have similar consistencies. For mineral oil I just lay on my side and use a dropper and put a few drops of mineral oil in my ear and wait for like 10-15 minutes then I wipe it out and wash that area and as much as I can around the outer ear.
