Why was I prescribed Meloxicam and corticosteroids?
After multiple x-rays no cysts or shallow joints or antyhing abnormal was found. Blood work showed negative for gout, lupus and RA factor although some level was slightly elevated (cant remember what it was but it was something generic like inflammation rate or something). I went to see my orthopedic surgeon who removed a Baker's Cyst from my knee in 2008 because I was having trouble with my knees again-but this time mostly with the opposite knee from surgery. My orthopedic surgeon was at a loss for what was wrong after the xrays and blood work came back and referred me to a rheumatologist. the rheumatologist took an xray of my hip and did a physical exam and prescribed me with a 6,5,4,3,2,1 dosing of a corticosteroid with no refills and a Meloxicam prescription with one refill. He wants to see me back in 6 weeks. What does all this mean? the rheumatologist didnt say "you have arthritis" or "you dont have arthritis" he just left me hanging. he did mention that even though my RA factor didnt show up as a concern on the bloodwork, 20-30% or RA cases the RA factor comes back fine. So that leaves RA on the table as a possibility? I read there are over 100 kinds of arthritis so is he just going to see how these meds work and in 6 weeks do further evaluation? I just want answers! I might be being impatient but I cant help it! When I googled Meloxicam it came back as an arthritic medication but could he have prescribed it even if he didnt think i have arthritis? Just as a way to keep my knee swelling down and to help with my hip pain?
